About
Alison is a geeky chick currently living in Sydney after making the move from Brisbane in late 2007. This move was motivated by greater opportunities for fun and professional advancement. A typical weekfor me involves catching up with old friends, meeting new people, working and relaxing. Beneath the busy social agenda I’m quite a homebody who’s just as happy to chill at home or join a huge group out and about.
For a time after the departure of one of the original STUB event organisers I took over planning Sydney Twitter group events; including co-ordinating with those planning a trip to Sydney to meet some of those they communicate with through the various social networks. I adore how Twitter has gone from purely online interaction to a thriving offline social network between cities within Australia inspired largely by the regular travellers and conference-goers. I use a number of social networks in different ways in a daily basis and they’re crucial to my sanity as I work from home in solitude most days.
Involvement in unorganising BarCamp, speaker appearances at unconferences and being one of the most easily recognisable people from their avatar has contributed to my growing recognition in a number of social and professional groups.
My great passions are how people use and benefit from technology, the strange and wonderful finds from the internet and spreading awareness of the useful but relatively unknown to the thirsty masses seeking more information. This has led to a new but developing interest in social media of which a great many of the posts on this site have been the result.
